With her graphic novels, Swedish author and feminist Liv Strömquist has for several years been entertainingly and highly successfully circling around questions of emancipation, role patterns in love relationships and the tiresome ideals of beauty. She talks about this with author Florian Werner.
Home is where the work is
What happens when a pandemic turns our home into our work place? How do we deal with the employers’ desire to observe and control our work in our homes?
As in her novels, Rachel Cusk asks smart and precise questions in her essays, without sparing herself, and thus once again hits as precisely as painfully (and hilariously) at the heart of what it means to be a woman, to have a family, to be an artist in our present day.
Exactly one year after we kicked off the Paul van Ostaijen year with Boem Paukeslag!, we sound the retreat of the festivities in Antwerp with an equally swinging closing show. Hall AthenA, in the Athenaeum where foolish Polleke himself went to school, is being transformed into a Music Hall for the occasion: with live music, poetry and performances by Dutch- and German-speaking artists.

The South African author Deborah Levy, who now lives in London, is one of the most distinguished authors of her generation – and not only for that reason has long been a desired guest of the Li-Be. After her novels „A House of One’s Own“ (Hoffmann & Campe 2021), „The Man Who Saw Everything“ (Kampa 2020) and „What Life Costs“ (Hoffmann & Campe 2019), her debut novel „Beautiful Mutants“ from 1986 has now been published in German for the first time.

Poetry is the first cousin of oral storytelling. Oral storytelling is the beginning of time, the beginning of story, the beginning of self. Tonight, we return to the beginning of storytelling, the beginning of human formation.

A conversation between Lina Meruane (Chile-USA) and Priya Basil (UK-Germany) about how increasing attention to female characters in their early fiction made them aware of gender troubles and about how, later on, becoming feminists influenced their non-fiction writing.
Americans of good will on both the left and the right are secretly asking themselves the same question: how has the conversation on race in America gone so crazy? We’re told to read books and listen to music by people of color but that wearing certain clothes is »appropriation.« We hear that being white automatically gives you privilege and that being black makes you a victim.
